Organism Physiology Essay Example for Free

Organism Physiology Essay Introduction This paper will clearly display a diagram of an organism of the student’s choice. This organism will display all of the main structures of the primary organs by labeling. Careful research will exhibit the concepts of natural selection and adaptation. Selected organism will address the proper concepts that apply. Three physiological adaptions were investigated by the student. Upon conclusion of the student’s investigation, knowledge will grant the understanding of how physiological adaptions allow the selected organism to thrive in its ecological niche. The organism that was selected for this essay is the Fish. External Anatomy This diagram below was provided and reproduced with the kind consent of WWW.FLORIDA FISHERIES.COM. Florida Fisheries has developed and provided the illustration of the external detail breakdown of a largemouth bass fish as shown below: Explanation of why nuisance species like the Fish share an equal importance to the economy and to ecology. Fish evolution and adaption process has produced many species that are a great contribution to mankind in many aspects. INTERNAL ANATOMY There are many variations of fish; who are defined as animals. Fish represents the most common living vertebrates. Currently, there are an estimation of at least 25,000 species of fish who are living today and this number is growing. The cold-blooded fish have a backbone and fins. In  addition, fish breathe through an airway named gills. Fish have skin however, on top of the skin is scales. There are some fish who do not have scales; as catfish who only have skin. Fish are able to steer, stop, move, maintain their position and stop by using their fins. The location of these fins vary in different fish. As for the scales on fish they vary as well. Amazingly all fish have a slimy mucus covering that protect fish for obtaining infections. Fish are referred to as aquatic vertebrates and they have appendages which have gone through the adapted process over a set time frame for the purpose of swimming. Mastering their domain which is water have gained the attention of many scientist. Fish come in various sizes and colors and have hearty appetites which substantiates their ability consume a large variety of foods. Evolution and Adaption Process There are many different species of fish. The first fish were vertebrates which were labeled as Ostracoderms. These fish were evident during the Cambrian Period approximately 510 million years ago. These vertebrates became extinct when the Devonian period ended 350 million years ago. One of the distinct character traits of these fish were jawless and their primary home was always in fresh water. Another distinct trait was their size which measured less than 30 cm (1foot long). Their external appearance as a bony scales covering the entire body of the fish. Osteichtyes are a class of bony fish that exist about 20,000. This class of fish which has a history of more than 410 million years include: tuna, eels and many other varieties of bony fish. These fish ceased to exist when a class of large humongous fish like the Sharks, Whales, and Placoderms arrived on the scene. Evolution has proven for these fish to exist their lungs increased allowing these fish to develop a swim bladder. This evolution process allowed these fish to float in the water no matter how high the water is. In addition, this evolution became very evident in the fish lungs. There are many categories however the three major for bony fish are: lung, ray-fins, and lobed. Their existence depends on the type of water that they live in. When these fish live in fresh water the oxygen level must have at least ninety percent. Their physiological characteristics of these fish gills is to strategic conduct a gas exchange where these fish maneuver water across their blood vessels. This fish gills are a very important physical trait  which is covered by opercula. This part of the fish looks like large plates. Digestive, and circulatory systems of these fish operate with a heart that has only two chambers. Conclusion Fish are a proven great contribution to all of mankind. Their evolution has proven to be very successful for a proven source for all of mankind. Gaining a greater understanding of their past to present will establish boundaries to protect their ongoing evolution. Some of the concepts of adaption and concepts of natural selection of how these fish thrive in its ecological niche have been addressed. Reference 1. Diabetes :: essays research papers

Diabetes   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Diabetes is a very serious disease that attacks millions of people around the world. It can strike at any age and can happen to anyone. Although we are not exactly sure about the causes of diabetes, we believe that it has to do with the body's own immune system attacking and destroying insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. Without insulin, the glucose that we need to live, has a hard time entering the cells of the body that need it. If too much glucose builds up in the blood, then a diabetic may begin to have headaches or blurry vision. They may become very thirsty and have dry, itchy skin. If glucose levels go too low, then a diabetic may feel shaky, tired, hungry, confused, or nervous. There are two types of diabetes. They are called Type 1 and Type 2 Some symptoms of diabetes include: excessive thirst; constant hunger; sudden weight loss for no reason; rapid, hard breathing; sudden vision changes or blurry vision; and drowsiness or exhaustion. These symptoms can occur at any time. Type 1 diabetes is more common in Americans then Type 2. It has affected over 1 million Americans with 30,000 more people diagnosed every year (13,000 of those being children). Type 1 diabetes can occur at any age but is most commonly diagnosed during childhood. In Type 1 diabetes, a person's pancreas produces little or no insulin, and because insulin is necessary for life, people with Type 1 diabetes must take several insulin injection shots each day for the rest of their lives. Although insulin allows a person to stay alive, it does not cure diabetes or prevent it's complications. The blood sugar level of the diabetic must be tested several times daily. One this is done by pricking the finger with a special needle and placing the blood into a machine that will carefully read it. This helps balance the glucose in the blood and will help determine how much insulin is needed. Diabetics need to pay careful attention to their diets, exercise, and blood sugar levels in order to stay healthy. Other factors that can affect the blood sugar levels are stressed, periods of growth, dollars for infection, and fatigue as well as their exercise and any changes in their normal schedule. Type 1 diabetes is also called insulin-dependent diabetes. Type 2 diabetes or, non-insulin-dependent diabetes, is different than Type 1 diabetes in one major way.

The meal experience Essay

Introduction The assignment I will be doing will be about a recent meal experience I had in an establishment. I recently went for a meal in a local brasserie situated in my town I will be discussing the intangible and tangible factors that influenced my meal experience. Reason for choice The reason I chose to carry out my assignment on this particular meal experience is because it is the most recent meal I have been out for in a long time and I heard from a number of sources that the restaurant was a great place to eat and it had got great reviews on trip advisor so I decided to give it a try. Also it is the only restaurant I have actually been out for a meal in during the last two years. Booking I planned to go for meal one Tuesday night with my other half, so I rang the restaurant to book a table for two. A young woman answered the phone pleasantly and asked if she could help me. I then asked her if I could book a table for two at 7:30pm. She then responded politely saying â€Å"you can of course. The table will be ready for you at 7:30, is there anything else I can help you with?† I responded to her question saying â€Å"no that is perfect thank you very much.† I found the woman on the phone very polite and she made me feel very relaxed and comfortable on the phone. So I can say the booking was a success The restaurant is a casual dining restaurant so we didn’t have to wear anything specific or even book a table but I did anyway just to be safe. Arrival The restaurant is situated on Portlaoise Main Street, at the top of an off licence. A negative to the arrival is that there is no parking at the restaurant. We had to park the car at a completely different place to where the restaurant is. My other half was wearing heels and we had to walk a good half a mile from the car park. However, we didn’t mind the walk too much but it is a bit much to have to walk that distance. When we reached the restaurant we had to climb a lot of stairs on the way up to the restaurant which is the only way up. The establishment is not suitable for disabled  people in terms of entering and exiting. We reached the reception finally. It was there we had our first look at the place. My first impression that it was small but had a good feng shui. The restaurant wasn’t full but there were a few people there just the way I like it. The girl greeted us and welcomed us. We thanked her and told her we had a reservation for 7:30 and we gave her our names. She then showed us to our table. I sat down and tested the table and chairs to see if it was wobbly but it wasn’t which was great because I cannot stand for a wobbly table when having a meal. The woman who was a waitress as well asked us if we wanted anything to drink. I asked for water, which was brought to me quite fast which I was satisfied with. The Menus were already on the table because it is a casual dining restaurant. The waitress after bringing the water left us for a few minutes while we decided what to eat. First Course My partner and I looked through the menu which was quite concise and had a good variety as it ranged from comfort food like burgers, steaks and chips to classic Italian dishes like pasta caribonara and lasagne and even Asian dishes like stir-fry and spring rolls. We were quite pleased with the selection and type of food that was available which left us spoiled for choice. The menu was A la carte so we could order as we went. Eventually my partner and I decided on our dishes. She got the filo prawns and I got the mixed salad. The waitress came back and we gave her the order. 5 minutes later she came out with both dishes. The speed of the service was great because I was quite hungry. Once the dishes arrived presented accordingly, nothing special, on their plates I tasted my salad and found no faults with it. they served it with their house dressing which I enjoyed. My other half enjoyed her prawns. I tasted one and after tasting it I could tell that it was something out of a box that was frozen so I didn’t enjoy the filo prawn so I left half of it. During the first course the waitress came to ensure that everything was ok and asked if we wanted anything else, so the service was good. The Main Meal. We finished our first course which was a success. So we moved on to our main course of the evening. After the waitress cleared our plates she gave us roughly 5 minutes between the meals before she brought out the main course.  I found that amount of time to be too little because my salad hadn’t yet gone down. My partner only had two prawns so she was quite happy with the time taken. We had ordered the â€Å"ultimate relish burger,† which was an enormous burger made of two 8oz patties, an onion ring on each patty, bacon and melted cheese and then stacked on top of each other and presented on a black slate. Presentation was great. I thought that it would be a big burger so my partner and I decided to share. When the burger came out it was way bigger than my expectations. in the end two of us couldn’t even finished it The burger however tasted great and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Sweet We were so stuffed from the first two meals that we called it a night and asked for the bill. We could not stomach anymore food. Close of meal. We come at last to the end of our â€Å"experience†, and what an experience it has been. Everything so far has exceeded what I was expecting- the room, the staff, the food, we enjoyed it very much. From the tangible elements like Food and drink, Variety of menu available, Level of service, Value for money, Interior design, Atmosphere and mood, Expectation and identification and the staff. The waitress came to clear our plates and we asked for the bill. We paid it, thanked the staff and went on our way. The only faults I can identify with the night was the speed at which the food came out. It was a bit too fast Also the walk from the car was a bit far so that is a negative and can be a big problem in the future. Reflection in memory A meal, like a good story, should have a good beginning, a middle and end, and it did for me and my partner. We enjoyed the experience. Just being able to even talk as loud as we want, wear anything at all and the atmosphere that everyone eating and working there created was great. It was my first time in a brasserie and it won’t be my last

Gossiping About Masked Strangers - 703 Words

One day, my friend and I were gossiping, and as we walked down the hallway, we pointed to every person we layed our eyes on and whispered, Fake. Fake. Fake. Fake. Fake. I giggled at our secretive insult, but I lost focus for a second. In my head, I imagined a mirror. I saw myself - a girl with a big smile painted across her face. Then, this girl pointed to her own reflection. Fake. Every day, my eyes scan this stupid place called high school - a dark tunnel I never find light at the end of. Heres a list of people I see: 1. Attention whores Girl I Hate Number One with Girl I Hate Number Two, and their little hater-ettes following close behind. Whats so great about them? Its obvious everyone loves them; no one hates or even dislikes these bitches. But, the way they act on the outside doesnt cover up whats on the inside: rude, bitter hatred. No one sees beyond this. They are viewed as the most gorgeous and fun girls ever. Ugh. 2. Miss High School Burnout The druggie-alcoholic, yet still popular-as-ever, girl. I have no idea how someone with zero morals gets so many friends. Clinging to her is her little freshman slave (premature attention whore to the max) who everyone also likes, though I dont know why. The only thing Mary Jane talks about is how high and wasted she gets. All. The. Time. Last weekend was killer - shots after shots after shots... Super baked right now... Up in the club with drinks and joints. How does no one get tired of
